Oh my goodness! I love little boys! Let’s talk about 5 baby boy photo props and some themes to go with those props. Then we will be ready to make some adorable photos.
I love to see baby pictures that show character. Our minds are so full of what this child is going to be when he grows up. Will he be strong and self-reliant? These are the questions that so many of us have as we are holding our new little ones. So, why not portray that in their photos? It makes the photos so stinking cute and interesting.
Here are a few of my favorites. As always, these are just suggestions. Be Creative!!!
#1 The Fisherman
Do you love to fish? Do the baby’s grandparents or aunts and uncles love to fish? If the answer to either of those questions is yes, then chances are that your baby will love to fish when he gets a little older. We all know that fishermen love to take some company along when
they go fishing.
I found a really cute little fisherman outfit online that is hand crocheted. It comes with a little fisherman’s hat, little diaper pants, booties, and a precious little crocheted “fishing pole with a fish on it”. I’m telling you, those that love to fish will absolutely love this.
This outfit and prop are 100% handmade with soft yarn so that it will not scratch your baby. In my research, I found that 78% of the people who purchased this item gave it either a 4 Star or 5 Star rating. It advertises that the size is 3-8 months. I would recommend that it be purchased early so that your baby can grow into it. Better safe than sorry.
An idea for a theme is to place a mirrored Plexiglas, or just a large, strong mirror, on the ground and surround it with plants. Some good plants for this shot would be ferns or spider plants. You could place larger plants behind the ferns so that the pots will not show. You want to try to create the appearance of a pond. The blue sky will be reflected in the mirror, giving it the look of water. Are y’all catching on with this theme? Adorable, huh? Then after you have set up your pond, you could sit that little bundle of joy right in his favorite Bumbo Seat, facing his creative homemade pond, and let him fish his precious little fisherman’s heart out.
Remember, these are just ideas. I’m trying to help you get your creative juices flowing.
#2 The Police Officer
Is that little boy of yours going to grow up to be a Police Officer? Mine sure did. I would have loved to have been able to take his picture in
such a cute little outfit. If you have a family member who is in law enforcement, or a friend who is in law enforcement, this is an excellent choice. It comes with a little diaper cover, police hat, and even handcuffs. It is 100% handmade. This is crocheted for your little tuff guy, so it is soft. I found that 75% of the reviews gave this outfit either 4 or 5 Stars.
They advertise the size to be 0-8 months. As with every prop, make sure you purchase this early. It may be too large right at first. It’s always better to purchase early and wait for the baby to grow into it.
This company also makes The Fireman. So, you could find that outfit also by just clicking on the police officer link and you will be able to find several choices from there.
An excellent way to take this photo is just to have a nice background and lay the baby on his tummy on a nice little furry blanket. I, personally, would go with a black background and a black furry rug, if I didn’t have a black furry blanket. If you have a police officer in the family, try to borrow something authentic, even if it’s just a pair of boots or a set of handcuffs. This picture will be absolutely adorable.
#3 The Athlete
We all love sports, don’t we? What is your favorite sport? Baseball, football, basketball, soccer, etc? The list goes on and on. I found several little sporty outfits to choose from. Also, you could use the actual instrument used in that sport. For instance, the football, basketball,
baseball or glove. You get what I’m talking about. I’ve seen some absolutely adorable newborn photos taken with the new little one laying in his Dad’s baseball glove. So cute!!
I’d like to encourage you to be bold with your photography of your little guy. If you have nice weather when you are planning these photo sessions, call your local school and just point-blank ask for their permission to come on their property and take some photos of the sports fields. You may be surprised, most of them will easily give their permission. Then, you can actually use those photos as your backdrop in photoshop. No, that’s not cheating. That’s progress!! 🙂 Just remember, when you are taking those photos to use as a backdrop, get down low and raise your camera up. Works great! You will love this. I promise.
#4 The Time Traveler
The time traveler is just a lovely idea. I mean, think about it. With all the new technology in DNA, we are learning where our ancestry has
come from. For instance, Ancestry.com and 23 and me, to name a couple.
We realize that who we are is who our ancestors were. The same rule goes for that little guy you hold in your arms today. He may have the exact blue eye color that his great-great-grandmother had. He may be over 6 feet tall, just like his granddaddy. That is just the coolest thing to me.
If you know your ancestry, and that of your husband, then play around with that. You could use an old suitcase or two. Also, try to use items that represent the countries and regions of his ancestry for props. Be creative and unique. Make a photo of that little man that he will grow up to be proud of. He’s unique. He’s special.
#5 The Lil Angel
Ah, one of my favorites! Can a little boy have a photo shoot as a little angel? By all means, yes he can. Little boys ARE little angels. Well, most of the time. 🙂
I’ve seen multiple adorable pictures of little boys with angel wings and a halo. My opinion is that this prop just can’t be beaten. Babies are
such blessings. In our family, babies are a special gift straight from God. They are our greatest treasure. I’m sure your family is just like mine.
The picture of the little Angel at the top of my website is my granddaughter. That was a very simple photo shoot. I dressed her all in white with the angel wings prop and the halo prop. That was all. I then had a black backdrop with a white furry bathroom rug. The picture turned out gorgeous. It’s a very easy photo shoot and definitely is pleasing. Try it. Can’t get any easier than this one.
In Conclusion
You can do this. Yes, there is an expense when taking professional looking photos. But the expense is minimal, especially when you compare it to the end product. You end up with a picture you wouldn’t take a million bucks for. So, my encouragement to you is to Go For It! You’ll be so glad you did. Your pictures will turn out great. You will save lots of money. You’ll be so proud of your handiwork! 🙂
If you do take a picture of your little man, please consider sharing them with us here at Creative Baby Photo Props. We’d love to see them. Also, if you have any questions or comments about this article, please leave them in the comment section below. I’d absolutely love to hear from you!!

Cute outfits. So many that I see are for baby girls, so it is good to see some geared more toward those little boys. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome, Keri.
The fashion and prop industry has really improved for little boys in recent years. I’m so glad. I remember when just about the only thing you could find for a little boy was a cowboy outfit. LOL
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. I love to hear from my readers.
All the best.
Great content .yes for sure professional baby photos can be costly for parents wanting to capture the special moments in a child’s life
Thank you, Nigel. I appreciate the nice things that you said.
Yes, professional photography is, unfortunately out of some of our budgets. But, we can still take those photos ourselves, and get great results. Those special moments are priceless. Children grow up so fast. I’m afraid if we wait until we can always afford a photographer, we will miss those moments.
All the best to you and yours.
Beautiful and fun clothes, When I get such clothes, I’ll sharing them with you for sure,
Thank you very much for recommending them to me, I will order soon
Best regards
Salomon.
Salomon, thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave me a nice comment. I’m glad you enjoyed my recommendations. If you do take those pictures, please consider sharing a picture with us. I’m going to create a share page on my site. Look forward to hearing from you again.
All the best,
Wendi

Such an original idea. Very cute. The information is informative and the babies are precious.

Oh my goodness! What can I say? Those have got to be the cutest little outfits/ideas for little baby boy pictures I have ever seen. I just wish I had seen them a little sooner, my grandson is already a year old, darn it. Got anything similar for a little older dude?
We did one with a old looking model T type pickup and with him wearing a roadster cap and googles! It was too cute! He seems to really like having his photo taken too, which really helps as I am sure you know. I liked your idea of using photo-shop to place actual pictures of sports fields or whatever as the background, what a cool idea.
Anyway, I just had to commend you on the uniqueness and “cuteness quotient” of your article! Keep them coming, I will for sure be back. Now I just need to figure out how to convince my son to have another baby! (Actually it would be his wife, but you know what I mean, right?)
LOL. I and every other grandmother out there know exactly what you mean! 🙂
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me such a wonderful comment. I just loved it. You just made my day. I love to hear from my readers.
I love the idea of the Model T. So stinkin’ cute. I’d love it if you could share a picture.
My next article will be for the baby girls in our lives. Then after that, I’m writing for the 1-3-year-olds. So, come to visit again in a week or so, and maybe I can give you some more ideas for that little guy that you love so much.
All the best
I really love this post. The lil angel is so funny and cute. Wish I would have done that with my girl when she was little. Great read 🙂
Thanks so much. I love the little angel, too. They just make that little one look so innocent and sweet. That’s what babies are!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the article. I’m especially thankful that you took the time to drop me a comment. I love to hear from my readers.
I wish you all the best.
I love to take pictures of my baby and this article is very helpful.
Thank you for the suggestions. I am sure pictures with these props will go viral in Instagram. Not to mention the memories you can keep while they are still very young.
Now that’s the kind of talk I love to hear. Sounds like you are going to get out there and take some pictures of that little one. My next article is some prop and theme ideas for little girls. I’m not sure if your baby is a boy or girl, but I hope one or the other will be a help to you.
Congratulations on that little one. I wish you much joy!
What a fun post! I have been a photographer for years, and am always looking for photo prop ideas. And I agree, the expense is well worth it. My favorite is the grey crocheted outfit with the red suspenders and tie. So cute!
Hi Holly. I’m so glad to hear from you. I love to hear from other photographers. I love that outfit, too. It was so hard for me to just pick 5. I remember the day when you could hardly ever find something really precious for a little boy. Now they are relatively easy to find. Girl props still far outnumber the boy props. But, boys have come a long way, baby. LOL Pun intended!
Have an awesome day.
Hi Wendi Sue. What a lovely place to visit and such gorgeous photos.
I love bubbas too and getting some great photos like these ones are such a great idea
I will tell my daughter in law to come to visit
Thank you
Hi Vicki. Thanks so much for the visit. I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures and props. Hope your daughter-in-law visits. Do they have a little one? My next article is for baby girls. Then, I will be doing some articles for ages 1-3. Taking pictures of children or grandchildren is very satisfying to me. Not only for the saving money aspect of it, but also for making the memories. Time shared if you know what I mean.
These are all so nice! I love the time traveler but my son is already 6 years old. I don’t know if he’ll agree to this. Haha. He only wants superheroes and cartoon characters now. But he definitely loves his picture being taken. Great share. Thanks!
Hi Nathan. Thanks so much for the visit. A 6-year-old son is a great blessing. It’s wonderful to know your son likes his picture taken. To me, that shows he’s had some pretty awesome photographers in his life. YAY!!! So many cute things you can do with the superheroes!!
I love these kind of tips!! Im searching for a while the best 5 ways to photograph my son and with your tips that would be easy!
I only have some questions… My son moves a lot and i see that your tips are with the baby sleeping… How does you recommend to take the photos with a baby ?
Thankyou!!
Hi Fernando. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and leave such a nice comment. I love to hear from my readers.
I will steadily be writing more posts concerning different ages of children. I’m not sure the age of your son, so I’m not sure when I will address his age group. Keep reading, because I will get there. You can use the theme idea for babies that are awake. The Fisherman is really best when the baby is awake. The other 4 themes that I wrote about in this post could be for babies that are asleep or awake. This post was geared to younger boy infants that can’t sit up without help. My next article will be for baby girl infants. Then I’ll scoot up in age and go from there with tips and ideas.
Hope to see you again, soon.
All the best,
Wendi
These outfits are so adorable! It is something so timeless and priceless, newborn photos. It is the only time that you can capture them when they are so little and new. It is refreshing to see boy outfits for pictures. I really like the athlete knit outfit. Another outfit that would look really cute would be a cowboy or camo. Thanks for the great post!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my article and leave such a nice comment. I really love to hear from my readers. I agree, the cowboy outfit is adorable. Amazon has that one too. I’ll have to write about that one some day. Thanks again.
Wendi
Such adorable and creative baby photographs you have shared in this article, I often wonder how our children will feel when they grow up and see how we dressed them up to take their photographs. I love photography of all types, even though I admire portrait photography nature and wildlife photography was my bread and butter when I was young.
Jeff
Hi Jeff. Thanks so much for the reply. I wonder the same thing. I don’t think some of them will appreciate the little nudie pictures. I always try to encourage clients to take that into consideration before they take those pictures. Someday they will either thank us or, well, I hate to think about it. LOL
The creative baby photo shots are winners, though. I think kids will grow up loving those pictures. Mine sure did.
All the best,
Wendi 🙂
