Hi Everyone! Let’s talk about baby girls and taking pictures. Today, I want to talk about 5 baby girl photo props and 5 awesome theme recommendations. I may also throw in a YouTube video to give you a few more ideas. So, get your coffee, sit down with me, and let’s visit. 🙂
#1 The Angel
The old saying is… What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice! Right? Yeah, the majority of the time that is right. But hey, little baby girls can have some attitude, and spunk, and pizzazz too. So, we will keep this in mind today as we are thinking together and planning some really adorable pictures of that sweet little girl in your life.
My #1 thought this morning is the angel. The picture at the top of this article is my granddaughter. I took this picture 8 years ago. It is timeless. That is one of the things I like about the angel pictures. They are always in “style”. They never look outdated. They are beautiful.
We chose to take this picture with her fully clothed except for shoes. We chose a very pretty little white dress, trying to portray her purity and innocence. Today, so many are taking the angel pictures with no clothes, and just the angel wings and maybe a halo or hair bow. There is nothing wrong with either way, so that is really your choice. I’d like to encourage you, though, to always remember that she will grow up someday and either thank you or she will hate that picture and ask you why you took it THAT way. Trust me, she will have an opinion, and you will get to hear it. LOL
I found a beautiful set of angel wings that I would like to recommend. This is a set of 4 angel wings and 4 headbands for under $15.00. It has a 4.8 out of 5 Star Rating. That speaks for itself, in my opinion.
I would recommend keeping your theme and colors very simple. With the white dress, I chose a black backdrop and a white fur blanket. For other colors, just choose accordingly. Let that little angel of yours be the masterpiece.
#2 The Mermaid
We all love Mermaids. Chances are, your little girl will, too.
I found this cute little mermaid outfit. It’s just adorable. It’s all made with baby soft yarn so that it doesn’t scratch her fragile skin. All 3 pieces are size adjustable with tie strings. The sizing says that it is for 0-6 months. But, honestly, I think it could fit all the way up to 8-10 months. So, speaking for average size babies, I do believe it would fit longer than 6 months.
This theme obviously would be a beach type scene. There is so much you could do here. You could have a blue-green background with baby laying on a sand-colored fluffy blanket. You could place seashells and starfish all around. For a new baby or a baby that isn’t sitting up yet, this would be adorable. For a baby that is sitting up, you could take the pictures outside, weather permitting. Place a sand-colored sheet on the ground. Put a mirror in the middle with plants all around with seashells, seaweed, and rocks, then sit that little mermaid in front of all of this. Bam, just like that, you have an adorable picture of your own little mermaid.
#3 The Diva
Oh, my goodness. We certainly have a few divas in our family. LOL, I can just imagine that it is that way in most families that have a plethora of girls. Our divas start at a very young age, and some of them have never outgrown it. 🙂
What do you think about this adorable little outfit for a photo shoot of your little diva? It’s so simple, but yet says a lot. It is a little pink or white bathrobe and towel set. The towel will have to be tied if you want it like the picture.
This is under $20. 100% of the reviews gave this either a 4 or 5 Star Rating. It runs a size 0-3 months. Looks like it is small. Definitely for a newborn. One review said that it fit her little 5-pound baby, so it could work for a little preemie. 🙂
For a theme, you could place a posing pillow on your couch, then place an accent blanket over the back of your couch and the posing pillow. Next, you could strategically place little girl toy cosmetics, hair accessories, etc. around the pillow and place that little diva in the posing pillow. Of course, don’t forget the cucumber slices. A girl needs all the beauty aids she can get. LOL, I think this one is precious and shows a little attitude. Love that!
#4 The Princess
Most little girls love to play like they are a princess at some point in their lives. I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve played Princess with my granddaughters. Oh, it’s so much fun for a mommy of boys to be a Bammie to some girls finally. We just love to play and dance and have a good time. We’ve got the “Princess Thing” down to an art!!
I found this beautiful little tiara headband for babies. I just love it. Of course, you have to be very careful with the points on the tiara. Baby’s skin is fragile. It has a nice elastic headband that you can stretch or fold to fit your little princess’s head. It comes in gold or silver.
For the theme, I would probably use a soft furry blanket, almost any color. I would then swaddle the baby in a lace wrap, or even a pretty cheesecloth wrap. Then with the baby asleep, I’d lay her on the blanket, place this little tiara in place, tuck her little feet in, and take some adorable pictures of your little sleeping princess. I can just see these pictures now. Totally awesome!
#5 The Ballerina
Now, what kind of photographer would I be if I didn’t recommend a tutu? Most little girls will love to dance and sing. It’s just a given. Actually, every single one of my grandchildren, boys, and girls, have loved to dance and sing. Why not encourage that with their first little tutu. It probably won’t be the last one that you will have to buy for them. 🙂
I found this little set so cute. I’d like to share it with you. You can purchase this Tutu and hair bow for under $10.
For the theme, I would use a mirror. You could place the mirror on the floor in front of the couch. Have someone hold a blanket or even a poster board in between the couch and the mirror. This is great for a baby that has a pretty good balance on pushing herself up. Place baby on her tummy with her head facing you and encourage her to push up and look at you, or she could even look at herself down in the mirror. Then you get down low on the floor for the photos. You could also place flowers and possible some ballet slippers on the mirror for more creativity.
I’ve written another article, Infant Photo Shoot – You Can Do At Home, that will be helpful when taking these pictures. It covers using some props you may already have at home and posing your sweet little one.
I did choose rather girlie outfits and props for this article. That was on purpose. I’m very aware that little girls can use the same props and outfits that little boys can, and vice versa. Today, though, I chose the girlie ones. In the end, it is completely up to you which outfits you choose. I’m just here to hopefully give you a creative nudge in the right direction.
